outside reading post # 4

toxic cars
In a recent article I read I found out that the new car smell that every recognizes and likes is actually harmful. Inhailing the chemicals in your new car can actually be very toxic seeing as how there are a number of chemicals such as arsenic and formaldehyde. Car companies say there may be toxic chemicals but not enough to do damage and in time the car will air out. But researchers say the chemicals can be dangerous to those who are allergic to them and have allergy problems. Also the "smell" may not air out for a long time and can be very bad for you depending on how long you spend inside your car and can lead to long term health problems. European and Japanese car manufactures are working on reducing the number of harmful chemicals found in all cars produced. American car producers too are making this change, GM reduced the number of harmful car emissions by 27 percent. As the article goes on it says chemicals are more harmful to be in certain medical conditions and this problem can be somewhat serious if companies do not lower the number of chemicals put into the cars. Also some companies accused of having a higher number of harmful emissions say that this problem isn't even a problem at all because the chemicals are under the hood and exteriors of the car. But studies show that this in fact is false because in some leathers are finalized with spray that holds these harmful chemicals. this is the article that I read: http://edition.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/wayoflife/07/31/aa.new.car.smell/?imw=Y
